Risk taking in youth with ADHD

Does social influence mitigate or increase risk taking in youth with ADHD?
ADHD is mainly characterized by age-inappropriately high levels of inattention and/or hyperactivity and impulsivity, but also by impaired social functioning. A high rate of peer rejection, deviant peer groups, and susceptibility to social influence may particularly contribute to the high prevalence of risk-taking behavior typically seen in this population.
The Brainbuzz project combines longitudinal behavioral and neuroimaging approaches to examine in which way social influence can mitigate or increase risk taking in youth with ADHD, but also who is most at risk for excessive risk-taking.
This project is funded by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in a Sara van Dam grant awarded to Anna van Duijvenvoorde.
